The advertising capstone course at Ball State entails a semester-long team project that models the normal flow of an advertising campaign. Knowledge from prior courses in Media, Research Strategy, Copy and Layout, Branding, and New Media is applied when the team builds advertising campaign from the ground up. Progress is guided by weekly meetings with the "client," where the professor challenges ideas and tosses out suggestions of his own. Janet's team, R4YOU, conducted extensive primary and secondary research on State Farm and its competitors including a focus group, 200+ survey respondents, and a creative concept test. Using Google AdPlanner, SRDS, MRI+ and persistent calls to media companies, R4YOU produced a strategic and cost-effective media plan.
While R4YOU collaborated on all areas of the campaign, Janet served as art director, ensuring congruency in theme, adherence to the creative brief and tying up all loose ends in the plans book. Janet was also in charge of new media, search engine advertising and other web-presence techniques. By combining creative energies, R4YOU produced entertaining and effective creative executions including radio, movie pre-roll, print, and OOH advertisements. The campaign was unveiled in a 20-minute presentation to fellow students and professors.
